Toolwise

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 May 2026  ·  Applies from: Toolwise v0.1.2 onwards
The short version: Toolwise doesn’t collect anything about you. The app runs entirely on your phone. Nothing you search, view, favourite, or tap is ever sent to us or to anyone else.

What data the app stores on your device

Toolwise saves a small amount of information on your device only, so the app remembers your preferences between sessions:

This data is held in Android’s standard local preferences store (Jetpack DataStore) and an on-device Room database. None of it is transmitted off your phone. You can clear it at any time via Settings → Reset all data or by uninstalling the app.

What data the app does not collect

The only permission Toolwise requests is standard internet access, and that is used solely so the Visit website button can open a tool’s homepage in your browser when you tap it. No other network requests are made by the app.

Android Auto Backup and device transfer

Android has two built-in mechanisms that can copy small amounts of app data off your device:

Toolwise allows both, so your favourites, name, role, currency and theme survive a reinstall or new phone. Specifically what gets copied:

Both files live in your own private Google account space (or directly on your new device), not on any Toolwise server. Toolwise has no access to either. You can opt out of cloud backup at any time in your phone’s Settings — the path varies by manufacturer (often Settings → Google → Backup, or on Samsung Settings → Accounts and backup → Back up data).

Sharing a tool

Toolwise’s Share button uses your phone’s standard share sheet. If you choose to share a tool to a third-party app (Messages, WhatsApp, Email, etc.), the destination app receives:

This handoff only happens when you initiate it. Toolwise itself does not record what you shared or with whom.

Visiting a vendor’s website

When you tap Visit website on a tool, your browser opens the tool’s homepage at the address listed in the app. Once you leave Toolwise, the destination website’s own privacy policy applies, not ours. Toolwise has no relationship with those vendors beyond listing publicly available information about their products.

Note on future affiliate links. Toolwise may, in a future release, append affiliate-tracking parameters to some Visit website links so that signing up for a tool earns Toolwise a small referral commission. If and when this is enabled:

Distribution via Google Play

When you install Toolwise via Google Play, Google records standard Play Store events: install, uninstall, update, OS-level crash signals, and (during closed testing) your enrolment as a tester. This data is held by Google under its own Google Play Services privacy policy and is independent of Toolwise. We can see aggregated, anonymous install statistics in Play Console; we cannot see individual users or their identities.

Data Safety form

Toolwise’s Google Play Data Safety declaration matches this policy: every “data collected” question is answered No, and every “data shared” question is answered No. The only practice declared is the optional Android Auto Backup described above.

Your rights by region

Toolwise doesn’t collect or transmit personal data, so most regional privacy laws are satisfied by design — there is no controller-side data held by us to request, correct, export, or delete. Every action below can be performed directly inside the app via Settings → Reset all data, or by uninstalling.

United Kingdom (UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018)

European Union & EEA (GDPR)

United States — California (CCPA / CPRA)

United States — other state privacy laws

The same answer applies under Virginia VCDPA, Colorado CPA, Connecticut CTDPA, Utah UCPA, Texas TDPSA, Oregon OCPA, Montana MCDPA, Iowa ICDPA, Tennessee TIPA, Indiana ICDPA, Delaware DPDPA, New Jersey NJDPA, New Hampshire NHPA, and other US state consumer-privacy laws: no data is collected, sold, shared, or used for targeted advertising or profiling.

Children (US COPPA, UK Age-Appropriate Design Code, EU GDPR Article 8)

Toolwise does not knowingly collect data from anyone, regardless of age, so it complies with COPPA (US), the UK Age-Appropriate Design Code, GDPR Article 8 (children’s data), and equivalent children’s-privacy regimes by design. The app is suitable for all ages.

Rest of world

Whether you’re protected by Canada’s PIPEDA, Brazil’s LGPD, Australia’s Privacy Act 1988, Singapore’s PDPA, South Africa’s POPIA, China’s PIPL, India’s DPDP Act, Japan’s APPI, South Korea’s PIPA, or any other privacy framework, the answer is the same: Toolwise itself collects nothing and transmits nothing. The Android Auto Backup mechanism described above is governed by your relationship with Google, not with us — see Google Play Services privacy policy for that.

How to exercise your rights anywhere in the world

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how Toolwise handles data, this page will be updated and the Last updated date at the top will change. Any material change will also be reflected in the app’s Settings screen before it takes effect, and the change will be summarised in the app’s release notes.

Governing law and complaints

This policy is provided in accordance with UK data-protection law. UK users may also raise concerns about how their data is handled with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). EU users may raise concerns with their national data-protection authority.
